聴覚障害者に、聴覚障害のない人の話を手話に変えて伝える人のこと。また、聴覚障害者の手話の意味を正しく理解し、聴覚障害のない人に伝える役割もある。都道府県ごとに実施される試験を受けて認められる。
This refers to a person who translates the message/story of a person without hearing disabilities, into sign language and conveys it to people with hearing disabilities. A sign language interpreter also has the role of understanding the meaning of sign language received from people with hearing disabilities correctly, and communicating it to people without hearing impairments. The sign language interpreters are approved by taking and passing a test conducted in each prefecture.
