重度の知的障害と肢体不自由が両方ともある児童または18歳以上の人が生活する施設。医療や日常生活の介護を行う。現在の児童福祉法では、「重症心身障害児施設」という名前は使われていない。「障害児入所施設（医療型）」という名前になった。
A facility where children or those who are 18 years or older who have both severe intellectual and physical disabilities live. It provides medical care and/or long-term care for daily life. The name "institution for severely-retarded children” is not used in the Child Welfare Law. The name has become “Facility for children with disabilities (medical type)”
