身体を動かすための神経が障害されて、少しずつ筋肉が萎縮したり、筋力が低下したりする進行性の病気。初めの症状は指の筋萎縮、嚥下障害(dysphagia)であり、進行すると呼吸麻痺、四肢麻痺(quadriplegia)が出てくる。介護保険の特定疾病に指定されている。
A progressive disease where the muscles atrophy (shrink) little by little and muscular strength declines because the nerves that move the body are damaged. The initial symptoms include finger muscle atrophy, difficulties with swallowing (dysphagia), and as it progresses, respiratory paralysis and paralysis of limbs (quadriplegia) occur.
