知的機能の低下がおおむね18歳までの間に現れて、日常生活に特別な支援を必要とする。判断する基準の一つとして知能指数(IQ：intelligence quotient)が用いられる。
Declining of intellectual function appears generally under 18 years old and special support in daily life becomes necessary. As one of the judgement criteria, IQ (intelligence quotient) is used.
